Aithon PV33 Base - 7.5kg
Available only within the UK Market. Up to R60 fire resistance on beams & columns - Fire resistance EN 13381-7 / EN 13501-2
A superior water borne intumescent; it is overcoated and protected with AITHON F3 varnish Finish coat. AITHON PV33 is recommended for interior fire protection of timber and is easy to use and quick drying. In the event of a fire, the product swells forming a micro-cellular foam layer more than 3cm thick and resistant to more than 1000°c. This acts as an insulating barrier between the flame and the timber.
The unique gel properties in the Aithon PV33 basecoat and the advanced Aithon F3 finish coat, provide an unrivalled decorative and protected finish.
For a period of fire resistance we must consider the following:
- Joist size
- Joist spacing
- Timber quality: eg: softwood C24
- Timber density: eg: 420 Kg/m3
- Permanent load: eg: dead load of joists + boards = eg 0.9 Kg/m2
- Working load: eg: 2.5kN/M2
- Joist length between supports: This is an important factor and often over looked
- Pictures and information on the current condition of the timber
As much information as possible will allow our technical team to make a calculation for the requirement of intumescent to provide a period of fire resistance. It is not a simple case of just thickness, it is a technical calculation and requires expertise. Ensuring the stability and integrity of the structure is maintained. Aithon PV33 system provides a superior finish and is one of the few products to benefit from the stringent European Technical Assessment (ETA). It is used throughout Europe and the World on small and large prestigious projects.

Using AITHON PV33 it is possible to upgrade the fire resistance class of historical buildings and at the same time, protect their ancient beauty saving the original timber frame. Also, reducing the environmental impact of the restoration works.
NEW BUILDINGS
In new buildings fire resistance is achieved by oversizing the timber beams and columns to compensate for the wood thickness which is carbonized in a fire situation.
Reducing the carbonization speed, AITHON PV33 allows designers to reduce timber oversizing, thus saving the cost and weight of the timber frame.
Understanding your requirements is important:
Periods of fire resistance are often confused with the above reaction to fire testing. However, the testing is very different to achieve.
EN13381-7 is the test method for determining the contribution to the fire resistance of structural members. Aithon is one of the few products to go through this rigorous testing. Like steel members the timber is now calculated technically through our calculation system. It is not as simple as defining the number of coats to achieve a performance, it is a technical calculation, knowing about the building, the load on the timber and the substrate itself. When deciding on a product it is important to establish that the product has been fully tested. It should be tested to the correct standard and not just indicative testing and the test solution should be able to be backed up. The correct loading rate should be measured to ensure the correct quantity of material is applied to achieve your requirement. Aithon PV33 system provides a superior finish and is one of the few products to benefit from the stringent European Technical Assessment (ETA) process. It is used throughout Europe and the World on small and large prestigious projects.
