Available only within the UK Market. Euro Class B on Spruce timber with a thickness of 18mm or greater - Clear Coating
A water-based, environmentally friendly and emission-free retardant stain for Spuce timber. It is easily absorbed into the timber which can be left natural or coated with the Aithon F3 varnish, recommended for outdoor use.
AITHONFIRE ECO FRX is an impregnating agent that is easily absorbed and reacts by binding itself firmly to the chemical structure of the wood, modifying its reaction to fire performance, while the surface maintains its natural appearance. The color of the wood is slightly revived and light woods can take on a slightly darker tint.
AITHONFIRE ECO FRX is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, requiring a light coat of F3 finish.
Fire Performance
BS EN 13501-1 Class B-s1-d0 (equivalent to Class 0 BS476 Part 6 and 7) on spruce with density of 410 Kg/m3 and thickness of 18mm, with airgap.
VOC Emission
AITHONFIRE ECO FRX does not contain volatile organic compounds (VOC = 0), does not contain formaldehyde, halogenated compounds, or other dangerous substances.
Application
AITHONFIRE ECO FRX is easy to apply by brush or spray.
The required consumption to achieve Class B-s1-d0 is 300 g/m2, applicable in 2 or 3 coats. The finish coat 50-70 g / m2 of solvent-based Aithon F3 (semi-matt finish)
The surface to be treated must be clean, dry (wood moisture less than 15%) and free of contaminants, oils, waxes and residues of old paint.
During application and drying make sure that the ambient temperature never drops below 5 ° C. At 20°C and 60% relative humidity the drying time is about 90 minutes, and several coats can be applied throughout the day.
At temperatures below 15°C and with ambient humidity above 65% the drying time can increase and also depends on the ventilation of the room. In these conditions it is recommended to apply one coat a day.
Note: The product should only be used on Spruce as this is the tested susbstrate. For other timber substrates, please view Aithon PV33 for internal applications or AL20X for external applications.Benefits

Can we be of help?
Understanding your requirement is important:
Reaction to Fire - deals with the initial stages of a fire.
Reaction to Fire tests are used to evaluate the contribution of a material and building elements to fire growth. How will the timber/wood react in the case of fire? Understanding your requirement is important and guidance should be sought from Approved Document B of the Building Regulations.
European Classifications:
A1 / A2 - Non-combustible materials
B – Combustible materials with very limited contribution to fire
C - Combustible materials with limited contribution to fire
D - Combustible materials with medium contribution to fire
E - Combustible materials with high contribution to fire
F - Combustible materials which are easily flammable
European testing also looks into smoke emission level and flaming droplets which can have major impacts on fire spread.
s1, s2, s3 [m2/sec2] deals with smoke intensity
s1 - Speed of emissions absent or weak
s2 - Speed of emissions of average intensity
s3 - Speed of emissions of high intensity
d0, d1, d2 = description of burning droplets
d0 - No dripping
d1 - Slow dripping
d2 – high dripping
United Kingdom Classifications
Class 1 is a classification defined by BS476 Pt 7 – Surface spread of Flame. This test measures the distance and time a flame will spread across a surface.
Class 0 which is a classification defined by BS476 Pt 6 - Fire Propagation test measuring the amount of heat the surface is giving off during the fire.
Note:
Periods of fire resistance are often confused with the above reaction to fire testing. However, the testing is very different to achieve. Please click on the following link for period of fire resistance using Aithon PV33/60
